"The HandyParken München app is a success story that we have been building on together since 2018. We have introduced many innovations, such as billing for parking sessions down to the minute, displaying additional mobility options on the map, and a verification app that makes checking parking tickets even easier. We intend to continue fulfilling our customers’ wishes in the future and further improve mobility for users. I would like to thank iteratec for their professional and innovative collaboration, which has been recognised by numerous awards for the app and by consistently high levels of customer satisfaction, as reflected in reviews, recommendations and feedback."

Simple, secure, cashless
Anyone wanting to pay for their parking space in Munich no longer needs to search for change or find a pay-and-display machine. Since 2018, the HandyParken München app has been available, allowing users to purchase parking tickets digitally. It’s a concept that works: almost two-thirds of all parking tickets in Munich are now purchased via the HandyParken München app. iteratec supported the go-live, has been operating the application ever since, and continues to develop the system in collaboration with Stadtwerke München for the City of Munich. Through multimodal content, the app connects motorists with public transport and car-sharing services.
A powerful and reliable app for digital parking tickets in Munich
With almost 1,000,000 users, HandyParken München now plays a vital role in the mobility landscape for Munich’s residents, commuters and tourists. This success brings with it a number of challenges: the service must be available 24/7 and work reliably on smartphones of varying ages and with different software versions. iteratec’s task is to develop excellent software and ensure that the HandyParken service is provided reliably via the app.
Further development is clearly user-centred and focused on adding value
The HandyParken system was launched in October 2018 in collaboration with the Lord Mayor of Munich, on schedule and within budget. Since then, an iteratec team has ensured trouble-free operation, proactive maintenance and customer-focused further development. Our focus is primarily on usability, resilience and availability. Technically necessary adjustments, such as the migration of the back-end systems from an on-premises data centre to the Microsoft Azure cloud, are carried out seamlessly and without compromising service quality.
Monitoring and enforcement are also carried out digitally – this takes the pressure off local authorities
The digital parking tickets are also checked digitally by the police and Munich’s municipal traffic enforcement agency using a monitoring app. Features such as number plate scanning and the printing of fines via a Bluetooth printer enable enforcement officers to carry out modern parking space monitoring and issue fines in a legally compliant manner. Process steps that were previously carried out manually have been automated by iteratec, thereby reducing the workload on administrative staff and alleviating staff shortages.
Multimodal services and the highest levels of customer satisfaction
HandyParken München has grown into a platform that enables multimodal use of Munich’s transport network. New features show users not only disabled and residents’ parking spaces, but also park-and-ride facilities, electric vehicle charging points, no-stopping zones, roadworks, and public transport and car-sharing services in Munich.
The successful, cross-organisational collaboration with stakeholders in Stadtwerke München’s customer service department, the municipal traffic enforcement team, the City of Munich’s Mobility Department and the Munich Police Headquarters is paying off: more than 60 per cent of parking tickets are now purchased digitally. The apps receive excellent ratings in the Apple and Google app stores and have already won several awards, including the Top Digitaliser Award 2021 and the German App Award in 2024 and 2025.
