How AI Helps with Job Searches
Job seekers are often rejected during the application process because the quality of their application materials is not up to par. The staff at the Düsseldorf Job Center, who support job seekers, thus faced a recurring challenge: Their counseling time was spent formatting and correcting application materials instead of providing individualized support to people.
The Düsseldorf Job Center sought a digital service that would improve the quality of application materials, streamline the process, reduce the workload on the counseling teams, and at the same time meet the highest standards for data protection and IT security. At the same time, the potential of AI was to be explored.
Can AI help create better job applications to make job seekers more successful? This led to the creation of LISA, an AI-powered service.
How LISA Works
-
Introduction:
Users can upload an existing resume via the Job Center's website or enter their information using a web form. -
Processing:
LISA identifies the key content and extracts it in a structured manner. -
Optimization:
With the help of AI, spelling, style, and structure are automatically checked, improved, and optimized (manual revisions are possible).
-
Issue:
All the information is incorporated into a pre-selected design template. -
Cover Letter (optional):
Based on the job posting, a free-form text, or the job ID, users can generate a cover letter tailored to the target position.
-
Preparing for an Interview:
In addition, LISA provides a list of relevant, position-specific interview questions.
As a result, users receive a package consisting of a resume, a cover letter, and potential interview questions, all available for immediate download. The process is fast, simple, and compliant with data protection regulations.
Working Together from Idea to Impact
It took only a few weeks from the initial idea to launch. The basis for this rapid time-to-market was a joint hyperSPRINT – a proven 5-day workshop in which business ideas are developed, prototypes are created, and their feasibility is assessed through feedback sessions.
This is how the idea for LISA was validated, a data-protection-compliant solution was designed, and the prototype was tested with job seekers and employees. The approach immediately achieved high levels of acceptance. Building on this, LISA was implemented as a live service and integrated into the job center’s website.
Key requirements were defined as mandatory for LISA: strict compliance with the GDPR, a properly encapsulated AI model (LLM), and seamless integration into the existing website. This is because strict data protection and IT security requirements have often hindered the introduction of effective digital services in the past.
More impact, less effort: LISA is transforming the application service
LISA, one of the most effective innovation initiatives at the Düsseldorf Job Center, has gotten off to a successful start in Düsseldorf and has been optimized based on feedback from users and counselors. It is already being rolled out at other job centers as well.
And for good reason: The quality of job applications has noticeably improved thanks to better structure, more precise language, a better match with job profiles, and a more professional presentation achieved through consistent templates. This relieves counseling teams of routine corrections, freeing up time for individualized, effective support.
The solution combines AI with strict compliance, genuine user-centricity, and measurable impact in a very short time. As a scalable model for all job centers, it provides a strong impetus for the responsible use of AI in the public sector.
